WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

A pattern of assaultive and/or coercive behavior, including at least one of the following attacks: physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and/or economic coercion. It is perpetrated by one person over their intimate partner(s) for the purpose of establishing and maintaining power and control.

Some Facts About Domestic Violence Against Women:

* Battering is the single largest cause of injury to women in the United States.

* About 30% of women seeking treatment in hospital emergency rooms are victims of domestic violence.

* A woman is beaten or abused every 15 seconds in this country.

* More than half of all homeless women are on the street because they are fleeing domestic violence in the home.
